nearest border crossing at surin ?

Featured Replies

we are thinking of coming from siem reap to surin,  we dont want to go to poipet as its too far a journey,  O'Smach seems closer .

has anyone used O'Smach crossing recently and is it open,  as i say we are coming from siem reap into thailand and want easiest option.       can anyone provide links for bus or minivan to surin also.  times etc

thanks

The crossing is open.

Perhaps have a look at this topic on the Isaan forum.

Yes,open.Mini van will take you to Surin, via Prasat.Every 30 minutes or so.

I use that crossing all the time with my car ( most recent was last August) small, very nice both sides.

there are bus's for the ride from the border to Surin

Crossed the border just north of Anlong Veng in February, taxi from siem reap takes about an hour, but you will need transportation on the thai side as the border crossing is in the middle of nowhere and we couldn't see any public transport there. We ended up paying a friend of the immigration about 5000 baht for a lift to Sisaket about 60km away.

wow ur driver was flying  (126 kms)

That's what I thought we would be getting, but we were stuck at the border I was prepared to wait and try and get a lift from one of the people who had been at the casino but the missus wasn't. We were being picked up in Sisaket by the nephew who finished work at 3:30 I said to her to get him to pick us up at the border and we would have to wait there but she wasn't having any of it and for the sake of 5000b it wasn't worth the grief. Ironically she got a lot more grief from the family when she told them what had happened.

Assuming one gets to the border at a reasonable time, say lunchtime, anyone know the public transport options to Surin or Sisaket ?

border to surin is easy, bus's run throughout the day....  around an hour.
