Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

Yes...I had this done a couple of years ago.   It got rather severe in my right hand getting me up all through the night.  I went to see Prof. Sudhee Sudasna in Chiang Mai Ram as he had already carried out two spine operations and a trigger finger operation successfully so it seemed reasonable to stick with the same surgeon especially as he is one of the best known and respected Surgeons around.  The operation took half an hour and has been perfect ever since.  Prof. Sudhee is available Monday and Thursday morning from about 10 but best to get in a queue beforehand.  These details may have changed.  Prof.  Sudhee has excellent English. P.m. me if you have any other questions.

Professor Sudhee is now retired and is not accepting new patients, he continues however to see his existing patients for the time being.

I wondered when he would, fortunately I have not had to see him since.  He told me at the time he would keep going as long as he could.

Please see Dr. Dusit  the orthopedist at Lanna Hospital. He did carpal tunnel operation for me about 10 years ago.

Before the operation I had to undergo a physical examination and blood test by a medical doctor.

As I am a patient at the same hospital my medication was in their data base.

On the operating table Dr. Dusit gave me a local anesthesia somewhere on my right wrist.

The operation was over about 30 minutes.

Dr. Dusit speaks excellent English and is a friendly doctor.

Anyone having had it done care to quote cost figures ???   ..... and was it done as out patient, or involve hosp stay??

sorry Gonzo forget the cost  but was in and out of the hospital in a couple of hours.  Done under a local.  They just keep you a bit longer to make sure there is no adverse effects but the operation itself was less than half an hour.

I assume you've exhausted all other forms of drug and physical therapy, surgery is really a last resort option for CTS. I had a severe case 20 years ago due to overwork on the computer, I literally couldn't carry even a shopping bag due to the pain. I thought I'd never play violin again. It was terrifying. So I went to a Chinese osteopath (I should mention at this point that I was living in Taiwan) and he twisted my fingers gently a few times, cocked his head as if he was listening to my joints, twisted a couple more times and then sent me on my way. After only 3 weeks and 3 brief sessions with him the pain was gone for days at a time, eventually I learned his technique myself and didn't need to visit him, and after about 6 months there was no need, the CTS was gone and has been for 20 years. I still can't play the violin, but I know eventually I will, once I learn how.

Clokwise and everyone else for that matter....thanks for all the input...I have been doing some alternative things, such as DMSO and H2O2 treatments. I will only use CTS release surgery as a very, very last resort. I will seek out advise from our local Chinese Medical Clinic which is housed at the University of Phayao, in case perhaps, acupuncture might do the job. pg
