CHIANG MAI: -- DNA tests are being carried out to determine whether a charred body found in a longan plantation in Chiang Mai province is that of a nurse reported missing by her husband.

Janjira Kerdlaew, 50, reportedly left home on Friday morning but did not arrive at the hospital where she works.

“Her husband lodged a complaint with us on Sunday, saying his wife had gone missing,” Pol Lt-Captain Yuenyong Pailom, an investigator at Doi Lor Police Station said yesterday.

Ex-convict arrested for killing and burning a nurse in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI: -- An ex-prisoner was arrested yesterday by Chiang Mai police for alleged assaulting and burning a nurse to death.

The suspect, identified as Nirun Kaewteja, 43, was freed recently from prison after serving more than 10 years of rape and murder.

Chiang Mai police said the arrest came after witnesses told them Nirun was near the scene of the murder after the charred remains of the nurse, Ms Janjira Kerdlarw, 50, was found.

A witness said he was chased away when he came close to an abandoned car near the scene on Monday.

He was most suspected by the police to be the murderer after the scene inspection by forensic police.

Her husband earlier told police his wife went missing since last Friday after driving to work at a hospital.

Investigation later strongly indicated Nirun was the suspected murderer.

More than ten years eh? Well that integrated him back into society, didn't it?

Nirun later confessed to killing the nurse for money.

He said he struck the victim on the neck and burned her body to cover up the crime.

But police suspected more persons might be involved as he was found to be acquainted with her.

She used to ask the ex-prisoner to spy on her family.

Police added they needed to question other close relative.

Even more bizarre.

News on Thai TV this morning -  husband hired Nirun, promised to pay 100,000 Baht. Apparently, husband has a mistress...

And from Bangkok Post "The victim had written a letter before she was murdered and asked a relative to give it to police if something happened to her."

The initial story was fishy. This clears things up for me.

But besides being mean and vicious and spiteful, why kill the lady?  Why pay money to kill the lady?  Was the lady blackmailing the husband?  If so, so what?  It is not much of a surprise that Thai men have a little wife out there somewhere.  I can only assume the husband had a lot to lose if his wife did something about the mistress
