BANGKOK: -- The government has decided to extend the declaration of the state of emergency in three southernmost provinces except for Mae Larn district in Pattani province for three additional months as of December 20.

According to the government’s announcement which was published in the government gazette, the extension of the state of emergency is necessary to enable security officials to deal with violent incidents in the strife-torn region which are continuing unabetted.

The state of emergency was last extended on September 13 for three months.

A State of Emergency (aka martial law) has been in effect for the last 2.5 years. Now being extended.

But the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center just revealed that its Kam Pong Tak Wa campaign has been successful in restoring peace in the Deep South. And in October there was a mass military withdrawal that left only soldiers from the Fourth Army Region there. And before the withdrawal a Front Command Cabinet was formed  to work towards peace restoration in the region.

At least the military knows how to operate martial law.

Is it doing any good though? I still read of killings there frequently.

It will never end.

True, with the present military "government" operandi modus. They have to outsmart them somehow, violence will just create more violence. Maybe try a reverse Indonesian tactic (the way the Indonesian Muslim government flooded the Christian Island of Ambon with Muslims from java too take control of the island), flood the area with Buddhist and buy up their land, or invest in the area and employ them so they got jobs and can make good money and forget about their separatist ideas. The area is too important for Thailand to just give up, as the offshore oil and gas reserves are very important for the country. A very hard nut to crack but the way they are handling it now will not work.

Head  shots,   just   use  head  shots  when  the  rebels are  encountered.

These  sleeze  are  not  worth  anything   to  Thailand.
