Two men charged in Sukhumvit building collapse incident offered bail release

BANGKOK, 20 December 2016 (NNT) – Investigators have presented engineers and board members of the demolition company involved in a building collapse in Sukhumvit Soi 87 to Phra Kanong Court, which has granted them the right to bail.

Kittipong Yutairomboon, an engineer of Mega Tools Co and Mana Kaewmanee, a board member of Boy Ocean Star Co Ltd, have reported to investigators of Phra Kanong Police to acknowledge charges stemming from the collapse of a 7 storey building in Sukhumvit Soi 87 on December 16 which claimed the lives of 2 workers. The two are representing their companies, which have rights to the building and were handling its tear down.

Boy Ocean Star Co Ltd has argued that it had previously ordered the demolition process be halted following a Bangkok city order and that it was another company that violated the order and continued with the work. The blamed company has asserted it believed the structure to be able to accommodate its work machinery and has assured it will provide assistance to the victims of the incident.

Both men reporting to authorities today refuted all charges against them and were later granted the option for bail by Phra Kanong Court.

Work at the site of the collapse has begun to wind up after authorities were able to remove the bodies of two people caught in the rubble. The road in front of the building has begun to be cleared for traffic.

There must be a cottage industry here to provide underground railway exits from Thailand. The amount of paying customers seems endless.

Money can do what not in Thailand.

Well, if bail is OK for the convicted death sentenced lady murderer of her Olympian husband the other day, why not for contractors/engineers who haven't even been convicted of anything as yet?
