Public Health Ministry recommends public eat more chili and ginger to combat cold

BANGKOK, 20 December 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health is encouraging the public to add chili, ginger, kaffir limes, lemon grass and galangal root to their diets during the cold season to help with circulation.

Deputy Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Kriatiphum Wongrajit, as ministry spokesman, has explained that cool temperatures may cause illness and the spread of flu viruses. He indicated that since January of this year, 160,000 Thais were infected by flu with 43 deaths resulting.

The ministry is thus urging citizens to keep warm during the winter season and to care for themselves by consuming freshly made food with high amounts of chili, ginger, kaffir limes, lemon grass and galangal root as the ingredients promote circulation. It is also recommending hot herbal drinks and for the avoidance of alcohol as inebriation in the cold can lead to heart attacks and death.

..., but stopped short of recommending to wear more than one t-shirt at the same time, because that advice didn't sound scientific enough.

And Chilli is THE number ONE that is hit with MOST PESTISIDES...Thank you very varm..

How about offering free flu shots like they do in Western countries instead of worthless herbs and spices to combat the flu?

I think they were promoting circulation to support optimized temperature regulation, not actually fighting the flu, in this case. 'Free' is a tough concept and a tough sell in a world where absolutely nothing is free. The fearless ones are already on a fool's mission to extract governmental-level sums of cash from private citizens. I think it's safe to assume at that point that the coffers are fairly barren. Save your breath; how they got that way is mired in subterfuge over many generations, with blood on too many hands to count. Just the same, I agree with the practical futility of this proffered 'advice,' which I believe is the underlying sentiment of your post.

Colds are a virus not spread by cold weather.

All Thais know that colds are spread by cold weather.

I don't think it's physically possible for my wife to eat more chillies.

Don't drink the bath oils like in Siberia.

Good mix with some chicken...

And since everything is filled to the brim with antibiotic, this will help us fight the cold.. or not.. And help resist to antibiotics if we catch the cold anyway :clap2:

"Keep warm during the winter season"... Now that is what I call really great advice!

So happy I read this enlightened expert advice or we would have frozen to death here...
