PM Makes a Date With Journalists

Featured Replies

Prime Minister Hun Sen has set January 14 as the day to meet journalists working in Cambodia, a rare event for the Kingdom. Ouk Kimseng, a spokesman for the Ministry of Information which is organizing the meeting, said the prime minister will take time to meet with roughly 700 local and foreign journalists.

“It will be a discussion between the leader of the country and media practitioners in Cambodia,” he said, adding that three to four employees from each media institution are invited to participate in the meeting. Meeting with the prime minister is a rare opportunity as journalists usually only obtain quotes from Mr. Hun Sen’s public speeches or from his official Facebook page.

“It is obvious that the prime minister values the important role of journalists and the media in a democratic society,” said Huy Vannak, president of the newly established Union of Journalist Federations of Cambodia. “It will also be an opportunity for journalists to learn about his vision for Cambodian people and the nation,” he added.
