NBTC asked to deal with online movie service

BANGKOK: -- The Federation of National Film Association of Thailand submitted a letter of petition to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to take action against websites which provide free or pre-paid movies online to members of the public.

The letter was handed over to NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tanthasit by executive members of the federation led by Mr Vicha Poonworalak, movie directors and entertainers.

Mr Vicha said the online movie shows, either free of charge or paid, without the permission of the producers are deemed to be copyright infringements.

An executive member of the federation, Mr Pornchai Wongsi-udomporn, recalled that infringement of movie copyrights and shown online through various websites, applications and Facebook had been going on for decades, causing enormous damage estimated at about 10 billion baht.

He said complaints had been lodged with the police and other authorities concerned, but little was done to resolve the problem.

I really hope they don't mean the Webservice "Thaiflix" (www.thaiflix.com). It is a great deal to watch Thai-TV online. The cost is roundabout 12.-€ per month, so I guess it is legal and they have the right for streaming, both, live and time-shifted. I really can recommend it - especially if you live overseas with your thai wife or if yourself want to learn Thai.

Note: I have been learning thai language for more than 12 years, I can read and write it (I guess my thai is better than my englisch ). So I really appreciate watching Thai-TV for practising  listening comprehension. Unfortunately, I live in Europe and the regular free live-streaming services of the usual thai-channels (3,5,7,8, MCOT, Nation-Channel, PBS and NBT) are very bad here overseas (ie. poor frame-rate, really lacking, no fun to watch).

If you added up all of the Thai content I have chosen to watch in the last decade, the sum would be zero. I agree they should ban all that stuff and bring in some decent programming.

not just movies!!!!!

you should start at the source of it all...... by "teaching" the "teachers" that tolerate any kind of plagiarism [ the disrespecting of original thought or signs of thinking ] by being removed of their Civil Service status. nothing less. holy jeepers Batman!

any copying of original work means pissing on it.  that's the really big problem...not just the money end of it. although ****money**** is a big priority for certain cultures..but not the western ones [ the real underlying reason why we consider plagiarism and copying anything to be "naughty" as well as insider trading too.... while we're at it ].

copying some else's homework or any sign of it.  not just movies.

the disrespecting of other folks creativity and thinking efforts.... but only when it is original.... and not a copy.

holy holy jeepers Batman!

you did it this time!!!

and don't try to tell me this is at all "off topic". it's 100% dead on.
