Proof of income

Recommended Posts

I am confused.  Can anyone enlighten me as to why if you are a male farang with a Thai wife you only need

to prove 400,000 baht income/savings.

However if you are two unmarried farangs living together here you need 800,000baht each as proof of income/savings.

I would have thought that if you were married you would need a greater income than if you were two single people like us.

Am I missing something here?

No, we do not want to get married - both been there, done that and won't do it again

I would guess that being married to a Thai theoretically makes you a stake-holder in the country and therefore you are cut a break. If you were married it would be 400,000 baht each (800,000 for one, the other follows as dependent)... Hmmm...

Because an extension based upon marriage to a Thai is for humanitarian reasons. They also took the fact that the wife can work or have income from a business to help support the family into consideration when they set the financial requirements.
