Chamlong Srimuang (จำลอง ศรีเมือง) has submitted a letter to the prime minister, opposing the listing of liquors in the stock market. Maj. Gen. Chamlong, on behalf of religious and anti-alcohol organizations, today handed the letter intended for Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont. The veteran political figure claimed that listing of alcohol beverages into the Stock Exchange of Thailand would warrant negative effects to the Thai community, in the aspects of health, economy and morality. He said such listing would also be against the government's policy, which place emphasis on ethics and sufficiency economy. Source: Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department - 08 December 2006 Utter Rubbish, it would have very positive effects on the economy, listing Thai beverage would have done wonders for the SET, it's well known that Thai Beverage is one of the most transparant companies in Thailand, listing on the SET would bring in foriegn investment and also raise the standard of the SET. Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, all countries benefiting from Thailands increasing uncompetitiveness. Thailand is falling behind and will IMHO fall further behind. You know: list on the (stock) market, display in the (super) market? It would make about as much sense as that prominent government official who said open source software was a bad thing.
