Forty five tourists saved as tourist boat takes on water in high seas

CHUMPORN: -- Forty five tourists were saved after a tourist boat started sinking off the coast of Chumporn in southern Thailand yesterday.

 

Authorities think that a large wave was responsible but an immediate investigation has been called.

 

Luckily for the tourists, who were mostly Thai, the boat started sinking just 2 kilometers offshore near the island of Koh Phra.

 

A fishing boat came to the rescue and managed to ferry all the people to the shore at Chumporn.

 

The vessel concerned was the 21 ton Raja Chumporn that developed a large hole under the waterline.

"large wave responsible"  Thank goodness it  wasnt a negligent captain taking a boat out in high seas or overloaded or in  bad  shape, glad  thats been cleared  up

Hmm, wonder what caused the boat to take on water?   Wave or hole.  Sheesh! 

Dont want to focus too much on what created the large hole and lets just blame a large wave! Is this a cultural thing? I mean we would not want to appoint any blame or cause any loss of face? Or maybe get sued by the ferry company by causing it to get any negative publicity! So lets just blame a large wave. Immediately investigate it away!

So now we have reckless busdrivers, very selfish minivandrivers, pilots who can't speak english and captains who have no idea what they're doing...was the boat insured by the way?

 

And they still ask for more European Quality Tourists who spend much money and are used to western quality/safety.

Looks more like a river boat than a sea going vessel 

A large hole that had probably been bodged to get a few more months / years out of it ,safety is only a word to speak in Thailand not something to think and do

i have seen a boat that carry tourist being Thai fixed (a hole in the hull) I tell people about that boat but still they go on it ,I won't ,it was not a good repair ,I have worked with fibre glass before and know how to 

SS Minnow..on a 3 hours tour..perhaps to Gilligans Island...

Perhaps now all those disappointed passengers who missed the first boat from Pattaya to Hua Hin will be thanking their lucky stars.

looks like they used that cheap CHEWING GUM.

Seems this country is turning into a death-trap more and more as the days go past. 45 saved from drowning off coast of Chumporn. 23 dead in the Chonburi collision. Who, in all honesty, could recommend this country as a holiday destination to their friends & families?

LOL.  One van crash and now the country is doomed???  Let me see how many people died in USA, Russia, China and India yesterday.  OK, more.  Let me check Japan.  OK, more.  Oh, they have more people so that's OK?  Let me check Vietnam, OK more.  

 

If this logic holds, never recommend anyone to drive, walk, eat, drink, fly, etc....they all kill.

Yeah, I agree. Looks pretty much the same as the longtail boats they use on the klongs here in Bangkok.

Take the most lucrative week of the tourist year, add the unusual 2-4 meter seas in the GOT due to monsoon weather and it's not surprising that the dash for cash trumps good sense.

 

Scary and wrong, but not surprising.  Glad they got everyone to shore safely.

I took a snorklingtrip from Samui to koh Tsao, the boat had a big hole in the side and cracks at the welds of the frame.

 

It was overloaded, i had to sit inbetween seats with a steel bar at my back (no pillow) and there we went full speed over the waves, the boat flew from top to top....on top of that the captain thought it would be fun for us to go full speed close to the rocks at the coast, just to scare us a bit.

 

Thai are far too irresponsible to have passengerboats...

I can see the Gulf from my property - we have had huge waves, really high seas, on and off, this past month. It's the Monsoon, for gosh sakes. Unless its a calm day, there are no fishing boats out there. This Thai tourist company should have its licence suspended. The tourists who decided to go out - well they have a long, long way to go to get to Thai 4.0 .

You got it wrong, it was "as quoted" the tourists were mostly Thai, the boat started sinking just 2 kilometers offshore near the island of Koh Phra, so not too confuse things, and the 25 killed in Chonburi were Thai (RIP), so western friends and families are ok to come for holidays, if they dare.
