My non immigrant O visa is single entry. Can I do a visa run??

Featured Replies

I have a Non Immigrant O single entry visa for volunteer services. It is about to expire after 90 days of being in the country. When I got the visa back in Chicago they said that I could extend it for 60 more days, so I bought my plane ticket from October-March. I am now told that it is too difficult to extend this kind of visa at the immigration office in Bangkok and should do a visa run to Myanmar instead.

My question: Can I do a visa run on a single entry visa??

Thanks for any insight!

With a single entry visa that is all you get. You would only get a visa exempt entry if you did a border run.

Unless you went to Ranong you would not be able to do it at a crossing to Myanmar since the others do not allow crossing for a new visa exempt entry.

If you are in Bangkok it would be better to do a run to Cambodia rather than Myanmar.

You'll get 30 days if re-entering without a visa which can be extended by 30 days at a local immigration office for 1,900 baht.

So even though I have a visa, when It Is close to expiring I can do a border run and get 30 Days In the country which I can Then extend or do a second border run?

You visa has already been used so not a problem to get a visa exempt entry and extension of it.

You used your visa when you entered Thailand so you no longer have a usable valid visa.

You have permission to stay for 90 days and can leave whenever you want as long as it's on or before the 90th day. On exit from the country your permission to stay ends and you are free to get a new visa or re-enter under the Tourist Visa Exempt Scheme (VE).

You can only enter, by land, twice per year using VE. A 30 day VE entry can be extended by 30 days making it possible to stay for 60 days from one VE entry.

Greetings -  I, too , have a Non-Immigrant O visa, single-entry, based on volunteering.

My Non O single-entry visa expiry date says 24 Jan 2017. (from what I read above, seems like this date doesn't matter, since it was "Used" as soon as I entered Thailand. My stamp from Chiang Mai Airport, upon entering Thailand, says "Admitted until 31 Jan 2017" (I landed on 3 Nov 2016)

1) Is it actually possible to get an extension on this type of non-imm O visa? (The original poster said it's too complicated. I am awaiting a callback from a Thai visa assist office for help, as well)

2) If an extension is not possible, do I have until the 24th or 31st to leave the country? (I'm assuming the latter, until the 31st)

3) Can I make a land border crossing at Mae Sai and go into Myanmar for the day and receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp upon re-entering Thailand (that is extendable by 30 days, if I so wish?) Or is flight in/out the preferred option?

Thank you in advance for sharing your insights!
