BANGKOK: -- As the flood situation in the South remains critical as more monsoon rains continued to dump more rains to wider flood stricken areas, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha planned to travel to the South to monitor the situation tomorrow.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan revealed today that the prime minister would fly to the South to inspect the situation and direct by himself all aids to delivered to the flood-stricken people.

He said the prime minister would see to the flood problem and make orders of all matters regarding aids by himself.

First world heads of state understand, unlike the little general, that showing up at emergency and disaster sites for a photo opportunity is particularly egregious and selfish due to the security measures and traffic interruptions the visit causes just to hand out rice or whatever...something anybody can do. When you compound these logistics interruptions to the rescue process with the Thai need to duck and grovel, it is really inconsiderate and self-serving to capitalize on a disaster situation simply for PR photos.

Moses is coming with his article 44 staff to part the waters. Today we have cameras to preserve for posterity. Try and get his best side not posterior shots.

So....What will the good general do after he sees all that water...eh...?  I have an idea. Maybe he'll write a catchy, make the people happy tune.

Headline tomorrow:

PM says he thanks the Disaster Mitigation Agency and Flood Control Bureau for their hard work in 2016 and looks forward to working with them in the new year. The PM said "Everything that could be done has been done. We feel good about the progress and so should the Thai people."

He was greeted by the local police and army and they listened to "Who'll stop the rain", one of his favorite Farang songs.

The call was made from his helicopter while flying over the devastated countryside. He returned to Bangkok to oversee the mini van crack down.

"...the prime minister would see to the flood problem and make orders of all matters regarding aids by himself..."

It's appropriate that Prayut should visit the flood-affected regions (as a show of support for the "flood-stricken people" ).

However, one hopes his "orders of all matters regarding aids" are only made after he has listened to those disaster recovery and relief experts who actually have the experience in this type of situation.

He could turn the water into wine. Instead of singing a song maybe he could take a long hard look at how to alleviate the problem. Build catch basins build a dam or something. Most problems here get lip service and then promptly filed.
