HARBIN, 9th January 2017 (NNT) – Thailand has stretched its winning streak to 8 after defending its title at the 9th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest 2017 in the city of Harbin, China.

Four students from Thailand took part in one of the world’s largest festivals in China featuring ice sculptures of animals, cartoon characters and famous landmarks.

Thai students yesterday put the finishing touches to their sculpture called “Water-Fish-Paddy-Field-Rice,” which is based on a big chunk of ice that was dragged out of a nearby river and was carved, brushed, and lit up. The fish sculpture was inspired by His Majesty the late King Rama IX.

The Thai sculptors were crowned champions on Sunday night, making it the 8th consecutive win for the country.

The festival, which officially opened late on Thursday and has drawn more than a million visitors, showcases the region’s tradition of snow and ice carvings. More than 57 teams from around the world took part in the contest.

HARBIN, 9th January 2017 (NNT) - Vocational students from Ubon Ratchathani province have won their 8th title in the 9th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest 2017 in Harbin, China.

The winners: Kritsana Kobsahai, Thanakorn Saksing, Apisit Sornchai and Thanasak Pipat, outperformed others with their Nile tilapia sculpture entitled Water-Fish-Paddy Field- Rice which is inspired by the late King’s development projects. Their mentor, Surachart Palasak disclosed that his students had braved the freezing temperature to sculpt snow day and night to complete their mission in time.

Despite their first experience competing abroad, the students from Ubon Ratchathani Vocational College have successfully brought home a New Year’s gift for their hometown and the nation, winning Top Grade Awards and Thailand's eighth title at the 9th International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest 2017. The competition, held between 4th and 7th January, brought together 57 teams from 15 countries.

The Vocational Education Commission has reportedly prepared a welcome home party for the winners and a press conference on their victory on Monday 9th January.

Pretty good effort for those from the tropics and 8 in a row.  If this is the 1st time they have competed abroad the other 7 wins must have been achieved in Thailand.  where did they get the snow?

The two great achievements of the technical schools....Creating marauding, killing hoodlums, and snow sculpture artists.  The future success of the country appears to be in good hands.

A small seed of success. If they can accomplish this they can accomplish much more. Its all a matter of applying one's self. Shows imagination and spirit. Bravo.
