Public document fees scrapped

The government plans to abolish a range of fees for its services, including fees for issuing birth certificates, marriage certification and national identity documents. The Interior Ministry says the changes will ease the financial burden on citizens, improve public services and make the processes more transparent.
 

Prok May Oudom, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry’s general identification department, said yesterday that a working team drawn from the ministries of interior and finance had prepared a draft of the law. Other documents which will be affected include living books, family books, marriage certificates and death certificates.
 

The plan is to submit the draft to the government for an official announcement this week. “We have already prepared this document. We just need to adjust some technical aspects. But we are willing to stop taking money for those services,” Mr. May Oudom said.
