Hello,

Have read and re-read all the posts I can find on this and am getting the blue book translation done and pick up tomorrow.

I understand or maybe don't know the following.

1. Thai Number plate useless.

2. Window Tint 50% max. (lived in Malaysia before and they made me tear out what was in the car when I bought one)

3. Blue Book English Translation.

4. Number Plates and Ins available at all borders after entering Malaysia.

5. Where or how do you request 6 months from the Thai Authorities before leaving Thailand?

6. How long will Malaysia give you after entering as I get a three month VOA.

Thanks much to those who have actually done this.

Hello,

So I did this trip and went through Wang Kelian. It opens at 7 thai time or 8 Malay time. Many people are simply running across the border in their Thai and Malay cars without stopping. I got the 90 visa at 7 and waited until 8am till the ins guy got there. he was very nice.

I had to buy ins and the plates on the Thai side at 8 am and it took about an hour to get all the BS figured out. The Thai ins guy went through the border and dealt with the Malay customs guy for me which took 30 minutes to get a round thing about 8" diameter that states clearly 30 days. The Malay guy went digging through my car to find the engine stamped numbers etc. Ins was 1500 baht and 200 baht for the stickers which you can forget about doing yourself, don't even try.

its 30 days max on both sides, no 6 months. So after 30 days I will run up there not renew my visa but will have to go trough the car renewal thing again. Thai side was fast and easy Malay side may be easier this time as I already have the plates and insurance 3 months etc. Bring lots of water to drink. Its 1000baht daily fine overstay for car up to 10,000baht max if you don't care you could simply wait it out and pay the 10,000 baht but since I am in Penang I will drive up and renew it after 30.

If its too much hassle to renew this regularly every 30 days for 6 mths I will drive my car back to my home in Chiang Mai and fly back and buy a cheap car here.
