visa issue for more than 90 days

i am arriving in Thailand on the 26th of january  with a return to the usa on may 10th.  I have a 60 day visa, which i know i can get an extension of 30 days for a total of 90 days.  However, my flight home is past 90 days.  My question is, if i take a side trip to vietnam for a week, and return, will I get an additional 30 days from the point of entry or am I screwed.  I can change my ticket home but would rather not as I am trying to retire in thailand in the fall.

Thank you for a fast response.  Looking to retire in fall, so dont want issues with a visa next october by screwing something up on this trip.
