One day overstay

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm here on a non immigrant-O visa, which expires on the 22nd of March (admitted until March 22nd). My flight leaves on the 23rd of March at 12.00, so I will pass through customs at about 10.00 in the morning.

The last night I will stay in a hotel 10 minutes away from the airport.

Although there is only a small chance the police would stop me on the morning of the 23rd, I wonder what would happen - would they arrest me, make me miss my flight?

Also, I heard rumours that now you also have to pay for the first day overstay (500 baht),  that you get a stamp in your passport AND that it has consequences when you want to apply for a new visa.

Also, the hotel will register my passport. My visa expires at midnight. Will they inform the police?

Would it be wiser to go to immigration and get a 6 day extension for 1900 baht (if that option still exists?)

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I doubt very much you would be taken to jail for few hours of of overstay if you showed the ticket for your flight.

If you are leaving from either airport in Bangkok you will not be fined for a one day of overstay.

A overstay will have no effect on getting another visa.

The hotel certainly will not notify the police of your overstay.
