ubonjoe
There is no one year resident visa. You can apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration based upon retirement. You will need 800k baht in a Thai bank for 60 day or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht. To apply for it you will need to be on a 90 day non immigrant visa entry. You can apply for a NON-OA long stay visa at a Thai embassy or official consulate in your home country or country of legal residence. The visa is valid for one year from the date of issue and allows unlimited one year entries for that year. That is possible there and a few other offices which is in reality is only a 90 day entry not a visa that can be used at any time. I choose not to go into detail about the 90 day non immigrant visa entry I mentioned.
