Extension of stay

Featured Replies

Been working like for last 6 years on a work permit and visa.

Company i am working for looks like it's going to close as one location already gone. My old boss has told me to hang in, but he has a job lined up for me already, but I am not sure what happens if

1) i leave on my own decision

2) the company closes

Worried about my visa as been here a while and have a couple of kids and a girlfriend.

Do i need to leave in 7 days of finishing, or what happens if we close?

There  is a big meeting this week, and many of us are unhappy about some threats by our new managers.

Assuming you have a 1 year extension of stay (not a visa) based on your work/job......

  • However your job ends the work permit should be cancelled and your permit to stay ends. You need to immediately leave the country or arrange an alternative extension of stay. You can get 7 days to leave the country for 1,900 baht if no alternative extension is available.
  • If you are the parent of a Thai, and you legalise your parenthood in court, you can get annual extensions of stay based on being a parent. You can still work/get a work permit and it would be a better option so that your permit to stay isn't linked to your work/job.
