Public Health Min introduces new health approach

BANGKOK, 23 January 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health will be implementing a 4-pronged approach to promoting public health this year.

Speaking during the daily program ‘Thailand Moves Forward,’ Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Sophon Mekthanon revealed that the approach involves infection prevention, environmental management, the development of a disease prevention system and a risk control strategy.

Dr. Sophon cited the need for people to be aware of how they can protect themselves against diseases and the need to provide Thais of all ages, particularly children and the elderly; with immediate access to medical treatments.

He further stated that Thailand needs to develop vaccines to prevent major diseases such as cervical cancer and dengue fever. Pregnant women will be urged to consume foods rich in folic acid, iodine and other essential minerals that prevent birth defects.

Going by the headline alone I was anticipating something genius that I haven't heard of yet (read as known for decades already) and expected some fun outta this, but nothing?

Followed the link, which is just a copy+paste what's written here, where be the details please?

Health 4.0?

"...implementing a 4-pronged approach to promoting public health..." that "...cited the need for people to be aware of how they can protect themselves..."

So far out of touch with reality - why not just say, "Let them eat cake" ???

And, once again, a high ranking thai official that should put his foot in his mouth to prevent himself from talking absolute nonsense.

Maybe Thailand should not try to re-invent the wheel on vaccines. There is a perfectly good vaccine against cervical cancer available worldwide (the HPV vaccine). As far as dengue fever is concerned the developments have accelerated dramatically and there is, already, an almost sure-fire vaccine in place.

The need for pregnant women to take folic acid, iodine and other essential minerals has been known and implemented in most of the world since the  nineteen fifties.

Isn't it wonderful for the Thai people to be governed by such towers of intelligence .
