Appeal for help to PM, king

The families of four imprisoned officials from rights group Adhoc and one National Election Committee (NEC) official appealed to Prime Minister Hun Sen and King Norodom Sihamoni yesterday, urging them to release them. The five detainees’ spouses jointly signed a letter stating that the five had been behind bars for nine months despite there being insufficient evidence to hold them and urged the government to acquit them.
 

“After our husbands, wife and mother were arrested and detained, our families encountered many problems,” read the letter, which was submitted to the Council of Ministers yesterday morning. “Our children are depressed and unable to study, our toddlers constantly cry because they want to see their fathers and grandmother.
 

“The pain and depression has made us ill and places a heavy burden on us,” it added. The letter points out that the families of the five have made six bail requests, all of which were denied.
