Wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to pick up a Thai tourist visa in Okinawa, Japan?

 

According to the embassy in Tokyo there is an Honorary Consulate for the Island but no other details are forthcoming. That of course could mean anything from a visa issuing outpost through to a guy who can wtiness forms and not much else.

 

I was planning on heading to Penang in March to get a tourist visa (I was previously on an ED visa, won't grab a new one until mid year) but Peach Airlines, sort of Japan's version of AirAsia are offering 2,000 baht one way airfares from BKK to Okinawa at the moment for travel in March and it's very tempting.

No. 

Then forget about it.

If you are in Japan as a tourist you won't get a Thai visa and Penang would be the choice. If you have a work/student/family etc type visa for Japan you probably could get a Thai tourist visa.
