Thai nationals traveling to Bahrain warned against overstaying their tourist visas

BANGKOK, 8 February 2017 (NNT) – The Ambassador of Thailand in Manama has warned Thai people who are travelling to Bahrain against overstaying their tourist visa.

Ambassador of Thailand in Manama, Bahrain, Chayaphan Bamrungphong disclosed that individuals entering Bahrain with a tourist visa are permitted to residing in Bahrain for 14 days.

Tourists can renew their visas at Bahrain's Immigration Bureau and extend their stay to a period of one month. Bahrain does not allow foreign nationals carrying a tourist visa to stay in the country longer than three months.

The country's law dictates that individuals who overstay their visas will be subject to a fine of 50 Bahraini Dinar per month.

Bahrain has previously waived these fines for Thai nationals who were arrested for illegal overstaying, but the number of Thai offenders has increased steadily and Bahraini officials have tightened its law enforcement in response, he said.

He added that the period of detention and exemption from fines are in accordance with the laws and the authority of Bahrain, warning that the Royal Thai Embassy cannot intervene the state's legal process. Thai nationals traveling to Bahrain are reminded to check their visa's expiration date and avoid overstaying in Bahrain.

The Bahraini immigration department will do well to send a fact copying

study group to Thai immigration and learn from them how the penalize

errant and wayward foreigners....
