THAILAND is wooing more foreign couples to celebrate their weddings here.

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has selected nine couples from nine different overseas markets to celebrate their wedding ceremonies at romantic Thai destinations this month under a campaign called “Thailand Wedding Destiny”, which is being held until Sunday.

Tanes Petsuwan, TAT deputy governor for international markets (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas), said that on average, foreign couples who celebrate their weddings here spent between Bt5 million and Bt12 million, the amounts varying according to the number of guests.

Brides and bridegrooms from mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Britain, France, the Czech Republic, Australia, the United States and Brazil are scheduled to hold wedding ceremonies in four of Thailand’s romantic locations – Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Sukhothai. The ceremonies will be held in both traditional Thai and Western styles, depending on the locality.

Don't know about them figures as usual.what does each couple spend 5-12 million baht per wedding or all the weddings that are mr and mrs farang come to this amount per year.if so 5-12 million baht ain't even a ice cube of a iceberg of tourism revenue,so what's all the fuss about.seriously I like to wake up and read something amusing not confusing in the morning.

Garbage! Wish my customers would spend 5 million plus! More like 100.000k is the average.

You run a back backer hostel?

Average UK wedding costs £25,090 (THB 1,103,00).

... and it's because it costs so much that a lot of couples get married overseas...

Mate of mine did it in the Philippines, cost him approx 100,000 THB (included flying his mum over from the UK, most other guests came from Singapore or Philippines)

Another mate did it in Bali, cost him approx 800k, maybe 1Million THB but he flew a couple of people from the UK & his Wife flew her parents in from Australia (most of the guests were in Indonesia & Singapore)

I guess it depends how many people plan to visit the wedding. Guy that spent 100 000 only had Mum there. I had 14 guests: Airfare + hotels + meals probably touched 800 000 THB...then the actual wedding cost on top gets it closer to 1.3 million. I had a "cheap" wedding. I'm sure if 40 people flew out and booked into a hotel for a week and used hotel wedding package it could easily be 5 million+.

I hope they give jet ski's a wide berth!
