February 14, 20179 yr I'm laying out the cement counter-top for these appliances we bought (electric oven & gas stove-top). We would like the gas stove-top directly over the oven. There will be a gap between the two pieces of 10-14 cm. I'm worried about having that electric oven fired up with gas lines above it. Would it be advisable to separate them with cement, or some other form of barrier? Thanks!
February 14, 20179 yr I certainly wouldn't be using plastic or rubber gas pipe, copper (from your local aircon man) will be just fine. BUT do consider having the oven at counter height, much easier for manoeuvring that giant Christmas / Thanksgiving turkey. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
February 14, 20179 yr Any oven from reputable mfg. will not have external heat issues. But, I have never understood the logic of putting an oven under the counter. When I had the chance to design my own kitchen the oven went a few cm above counter top. Now I can see what's going on without bending over and can easily put the cooking trays in/out.
February 15, 20179 yr Oven directly under the cooktop seems like a issue. You will have heat rising from the oven to make life uncomfortable for the chef at the stove and every time you open/close the oven a blast of heat rise up in your face. Also the bending/stooping is way too much for my tired old back. Move the oven to a height that is easier to deal with. I agree that external heat from the oven should not be an issue but Crossy has it right use copper tubing for the stove if you decide on your plans
