The scene in Loei province where Sukothai Somsrisai landed after ejecting from a jet fighter on Wednesday morning

LOEI — A jet fighter pilot was severely injured after he ejected from a training jet over Loei province under unknown circumstances Wednesday.

Squadron Leader Sukothai Somsrisai was found in a rubber plantation in Loei city at about 11am after he ejected from the Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet, which had taken off from Udon Thani province. He was hospitalized for his injuries and remained in critical condition.

So I surmise the squadron leader was training the other pilot,

when he ejected, got scared or just pulled the wrong lever,

strange things happen in Thailand, happy to see the other

pilot landed the plane safely, looking forward to read the

reason why he bailed,if we ever hear anymore about the story.

regards worgeordie

Glad to hear that the other pilot landed the plane safely. Was beginning to think that Thai pilots were as bad as Thai drivers...

There is obviously something wrong with all fighter jets, first Gripen and now this Alpha jet. Same pattern as cars that keeps crashing for some strange reson.

Airman sustains injury after he jettisoned from jet

The second pilot of an Air Force’s Alpha jet sustained serious injury after he jettisoned from the aircraft as it was on a routine training flight over Muang district of Loei province on Wednesday.

The first pilot of the jet however managed to land the aircraft at an airbase in Udon Thani safely.

The injured pilot, Squadron Leader Sukhothai Somsrisai, parachuted into Charoesook village and sustained serious injury upon landing. He was later rushed to Loei provincial hospital by civilian rescue workers for medical treatment and his condition was described as stable.

This is/was one of the aircraft that buzz the Udon Thani Airport while commercial passenger jets come and go.

When waiting to board at Udon Thani airport I am always wondering when there is likely to be a disastrous accident. Given the latest run of "bad luck" it might only be a matter of time!

Faulty ejector seat maybe..has been known before. Well done too the trainee pilot in bringing th plane down..must have a real shock and I wouldn't imaging a seat ejects quietly !!!

Non pilots, and I am one, don't realize  the violence of an emergency ejection system.

It is really designed to take the pilot of the crippled plane as soon  as possible and little consideration is given to the pilots feelings, as long as the ejection system doesn't kill the pilot.

At least in high performance fighter aircraft the emergency ejection system is a rocket pack system that  shoots the pilot and maybe a capsule he or she sits in out of the crippled plane.

It is not unusual for the pilot to suffer injuries in an emergency eject.

At any rate the pilot  is kept alive, which he probably wouldn't be if he rode the plane down.

A rubber plantation ? Well at least he fell on something soft .

One aircraft of each type has an incident (one crash and one lands safely ) and its 'something wrong with ALL jets'?

What a vivid imagination. Thailand has over 89 fighter aircraft and over 100 other aircraft.

Military aircraft all over the world crash- its the nature of the beast.

Are you aware of the separation and landing/takeoff times at most airports? There is a reason for Air Traffic Controllers.

Best you take a taxi.

I belive that is a very bad advice, the risk for a crash with a taxi is about x 1000.

I can't help but wonder if pilot #1 hollered  "bpai nai"  as pilot #2 launched his ass outta there . .  . ?

Learn how to spot obvious sarcasm.

Maybe the Squadron Leader decided his pupil failed miserably - "Now get out of my sight!!"  :whistling:

Shhhsh or they will soon be out there shopping for a whole new fleet of military aircraft to play soldier with.

Imagine what they could easily achieve in sinking submarines of their own. Oooops...........forgot to close the conning tower hatch glug glug glug!

Hope they dont have any anti aircraft defence system, for this country i suggest a toy version.  A matter of time before a makebelive enemy passenger jet is shot down. The impact on the tourist industry would be devastating!!!!!!!

Lots of instructors have wished the could get out of the aircraft the way the student flies.  This one did.

I think the USA Air force allow only 3 ejections becasue it damages the spine.

A fleet of ultra lites armed with RPG's  and automatic rifles is the answer for Thailand's air-defence needs.

Doesn't the ejector seat go through the canopy usually? So the photo in the article above (Post 5) is probably not the aircraft in the story...

Everyone who survives basic training on jets in Thailand is a Squadron Leader. When they killed in an accident they are promoted to Air Marshall. If they don't actually die, they get a 6 month contract running Thai Airways....
