Hi

I am trying to find out what is the approx cost of martial arts classes in Thailand,

and more so what would Thai people pay for this..

reason I ask, is I am seriously thinking of teaching Self Defence Krav Maga, down here in Pattaya later in the new year.

This is basic Self Defence Training for normal people who want to learn some basic proven skills that work, if they got mugged, attacked, robber, or for ladies as sex attacker. (it would not be aimed at people who are Muay Thai figthers, who seek harder training).

I am a certified instructor and I trained in Israel where Krav Maga orignated.

I was just thinking of teaching it part-time on a saturday or something, more as a hobby for me, and a bit of fun, plus I enjoy teaching this sort of stuff.

Any ideas what would be a fair price to charge for a class, that would attract both thai and frang people, and would cover my expenses etc etc..?

My son does TaiKwonDo at Paragon, his lesson are 3000b per month for 4 lessons of 90 minutes which often go over to up to 2 hrs or more, depending on the day. I think it is 4500b to bump up to 8 lessons per month.

I found the 'rocky balboa' TKD school also, it was I think from memory 1000b for the month, either 60 or 90 minute lessons, but it was not aircon, rellay hot, stuffy and grotty...but might be a great school, not sure. The instructors uniform looked kind of grotty, all that sweat every day, maybe not washed so good etc.

Also another one in Ratchada charges 2500b for similar lessons and another school in Sukhumvit I think was 3999b for 60 minute lessons, but you could upgrade to 4000b I think or thereabouts for unlimited lessons, or come as many times in a aweek as you want.

Yes, I am definately thinking then in Feb of teaching Adult Self Defence classes for ladies and men in Pattaya, based on Krav Maga, and

once I find a place to teach from (school or church hall), I probably will charge 200 bhat a class which will be minimum of 90 mins for both frang and thai people.

I am going to base it on my school I had in Ireland www.selfdefence.ie

I think 200 bhat to learn very effect and proven self defence is a very fair price for local people in Pattaya, who have no martial arts experience, and want to train in a safe environment, under a qualified instructor.

Tonys gym on third road(the muay Thai center) north of south pattaya rd. does not use the muay thai faciltys in the AM, they have the padded ring, although might be expensive.

There is a church on Threpprasit, approx. 2 kilos east of thrapaya on the south side (new world center??). Maybe they have a room and I'm sure that they would appreciate the rental fee and probably much cheaper.

I would be willing to pre pay for a lesson if that would help you decide how much money you have to work with...

Yes. I know that church ....on a corner...opposite a go kart track or something like that...about half way down Threpprasit.

I shall call in there when I am back in about 2 weeks, and see do they have something.

I;d like a private enough room like that, if people are paying money for a class, they deserve privacy to learn without interruptions.

Yes, I am sure Thai Boxing gyms would rent in non peak hours (I train muay thai daily myself) but what I am doing with the krav maga self defence , is not for the Thai boxer market...

and some people might be scared away, if the venue is a serious boxing gym.

I am going to put a few ads in the english and thai pattaya papers nearer the time, so I can let people know the details.

If anyone wants a rough idea of what I used to teach in ireland, if you PM me your email, I can email you an info sheet.

Thanks

Gerry
