Hi All,

Today I went to the Immigration Office in Phuket Town, Phuket, to renew our Retirement visas. Last year I had to open a Bank account in my wife's name, and deposit 800,000 B. I argued that my wife was a dependant. Why was it necessary to deposit 800,000B? They insisted that this was the correct procedure.

However, today everything changed. I was issued a Retirement visa. even though I had not had the required 800,000B deposited for 3 months. The officer did however scrutinise my Bank Pass Book very carefully.....it must have been apparent that I had regularly transferred monies from the UK. My wife was issued her Retirement visa with no fuss at all! No mention of depositing 800,000B!

Amazing Thailand!!

Did your book have a balance of 800k when you applied ? Did you have to provide a letter from bank confirming the balance ?

Yes to both. However, you do not have to have a Medical Certificate.

The 3 month rule is not being enforced yet for those in the system it appears. Believe they are waiting until the word gets out as they have done in the past when changes were made. Is your wife extension marked as retirement or just extended? Believe they did the normal dependent extension and that would not require the bank account balance. At any rate all is well that ends well.
