Are you aware that the 60 day period of stay from of a tourist visa can be extended once for 30 days at the Thai immigration office without leaving the country? (1900 Baht).

You cannot extend a visa.  You can extend your current permission to stay at a local immigration office for 30 days; 1900 baht.  If you actually leave Thailand and come back in (Out-In), you will either activate a new entry on your existing multiple entry visa, or will be using the Visa Exempt scheme.

There is now  2 VEs per calendar year for all land borders.

The OP appears to be writing about the Ban Phu Nam Ron crossing. Unless things have changed they do not allow a crossing unless you have a valid Thai visa for re-entry to the country. No crossings for a new visa exempt entry are allowed.

As said you can apply for a 30 day extension of the 60 day entry your tourist visa allowed at a immigration office.
