BANGKOK: -- Monks from Dhammakaya Temple on Wednesday morning decided to have their breakfast on the street surrounded by security guards in front of the temple, claiming they were forced by authorities to enter the temple through a designated gate.

Sixteen monks exited the temple this morning to receive food from laymen, but when they wanted to go back into the temple through Gates 5 and 6, they were told by security guards to use only Gate 7.

So what is the problem with using Gate 7 ?  It's getting to the stage where these so called monks need a slapping

I see a lot of orange rags but no monks or Buddhism . Total farce from both sides involved and shows the enept stupidity and inbred corruption to the whole world ...

Good think I don't have to eat seating like this, my legs will fall

a sleep in 5 minutes....

The number 7 is unlucky that day...hmmm written somewhere in Buddha's script?

Terrible thats what is terrible the poor monks had to fix their own food.

Looking at the photo ones on the right could do with a few days off the food  :cheesy:

Well for sure Thailand has many Fake things. Monks. TIT

I can't even seat like that for a few minutes without my knees hurting. When go to the beach I bring a folding lawn chair while they sit on their mat. They must have different knees than us farangs. I.see them squat all the time.and I can't do that long.

Getting?

I know members of this temple back in the States.

They are good people.

Just because my President is a jerk doesn't mean I am fair game to be demonized as a citizen...and just because the temple Abbot is alleged to have done some shady dealings there is no reason to demonize the whole community of the temple. The mob that feels they have a right to rail on every thread about Dhammakaya is hardly affected by any of this but act like they know everything  and feel justified in their outrage.  Really!?

The monks at this temple are protecting a crook.

They have gone beyond the Pale and should be treated as such.

They are the subject of this thread.

I don't care what happens in the USA.

It's not relevant.

I dunno. What's the reason for not using gates 5 and 6? Just to show them who's boss? Both sides are acting like little kids, but there has to be a reason why the government is dragging this thing out. I think the person in charge of the "search" is purposely not finding Phra Dhammachayo.

And you know this how? My feeling is that this is a political thing. The monarchists associate Wat Dhammakaya with Thaksin. Phra Dhammachayo was accused of the same crimes twenty some years ago, and was exonerated in court. The whole thing has been handled in a way to maximize publicity and minimize actual results. Of course this is only speculation on my part, but I am more skeptical of government accusations than most of the people who post to TV and seem to assume that any accusation is positive proof of guilt.

I'll take the side of all those people screwed out of their savings by the scumbag who stole from the credit union he ran and then "donated" to this temple over the crook the temple is protecting any day.

Free food and they're sitting on billions of baht and valuables !!!

just what is it with Gate 7 ???

"...claiming they were forced by authorities to enter the temple through a designated gate."

It had nothing to do with the gate. While the monks were out receiving their food for the day, someone absconded with their Benz. They didn't want to lose face by having to walk into the temple grounds.

Maximize publicity?  Sure, the BiB set out to portray themselves as inept imbeciles on purpose, and have done a great job at it.

Oh, the poor monks. Having to lower themselves to a mere mortal level.

I was on the bus the other day and a monk got on. The girl sat at the front slowly noticed him, quickly jumped up and moved away, while he sat in her seat without even as much as a nod of gratitude. He wasn't particularly old and could have stood like other people on the bus. I don't know why Thais chose to adopt Buddhism as their main religion. So many of the so called pious ones seem to practice the opposite of what true Buddhism is. So many are all about money, power and face. Just use Buddhism to act sanctimoniously and as a good luck charm.

Man, I love this, better than a movie or a TV soap.

Every day a new installment.  :cheesy:

Boo Hoo to these poor monks who have to use a designated gate to enter the crime zone

of their temple.  Well they can all quit crying their alligator tears and do as they are told.

What a bunch of ungrateful people, these and other monks are.

they should remember that the former abbott is wanted for money

laundering, and they get their food from the public that feed them.

Totally ungrateful!

Geezer

Well in fairness they do seem to relish portraying themselves as such don't they?

There have been several high profile announcements, photo opportunities, news conferences, crackdowns and finger pointing festivals recently which seem to have been staged with precisely that in mind
