Any must visit places around Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hi, thinking where to go on familly holiday for few days, initially was thinking Koh Lipe, but due to not easy acess from where I stay I might consider other places outside Thailand.

Shanghai, Singapoore, or some tropical islands near by?

Any ideas welcome :)

Thanks

Try Angkor Wat and the rest of Cambodia. While in Cambodia, why not visit the typical Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam trip? You'll find great attractions that are waiting to be discovered. (Also very cheap to visit)

Been Laos few times for visas so I know it there a bit, not impresssive if u ask me.

Been Vietnam for new year, gf got picket pocket lost iphone 7+. Was lots of doggy ppl in tourist areas.

Never went Cambodia, heard its nice.

Stay away from Kuta, nothing much there but the rest of the island is lovely.

My house would be a good start..........I'm trying to sell it and can' t get a buyer!

Within 6 hours flying time, Japan or Maldives.

Within 3 hours flying time Indonesia or Vietnam (between Hue and Hmc)

Within driving distance, its now not a good time to catch the best winter escapes. Up north its smokey and south you could get rain.

IME stuff that does not sell is priced above what the market thinks it is worth.......

Bali is a great place to visit and much more tropical than Thailand..

Give malayasian coast to look...

Hong Kong is well worth a visit plenty for family to do.. Singapore I would advise giving it a wide berth used to be good and fun, now operated and overpriced. Baling is nice for beach type activities.

Slow boat trip Chiang Khong - Pakbeng - Luang Prabang. Book the more expensive option wit comfortable coach-style seats with meals and accom in Pakbeng included. Very scenic relaxed journey. Then fly home.

Penang, Food capital of Asia........and safe

Singapore, and if family holiday, then consider Sentosa Island, you'll get more than enough for "a few days".

If family small/smaller children then also consider a trip across the border to Johor and visit Legoland, they have a perfect family hotel for kids – grown-ups can also have great fun there...

At Sentosa, must visit is Universal Studios, South East Asian Aquarium (biggest in the World, they state), the cable-cars, the evening light & water laser-show "Wings-og-Fire" at the beach, and the “Luge and Skyride”, and of course some of the about 25 other attractions.  You can on Internet find and book a relative affordable hotel-package, including tickets for Universal and SEA and water-park, I used for example Hotel Michael in Resort World. Almost everything is within walking distance, but the monorail is free when staying on the island, and I think also the 2 or 3 buslines.

If going to Johor, then start there before Sentosa. You can together with hotel book a pick-up by car/minibus in Changi Airport, the car will take you direct over the border to for example Legoland Hotel; it has to be a Malaysian car/taxi to bring passengers in from Singapore, they can also provide a return drive to Singapore, for example to Sentosa Island.

Cameron Highlands Malaysia

koh Chang ( off Trat)

The islands off Sihanoukville.

langkawi/ or Tioman or Perhentian islands.

have to disagree with the above;

been to all of them and none are on my list of places i'd ever return

Now than, places i  have been and return as often as i can

Angkor Wat

Bagan

Singapore

Penang

Luang Prabang

Middle ( ubud) and north of Bali.. forget Kuta beach unless u surf

Nepal

Ayuthayya is an awesome and easy day trip from BKK

Does baling as a beach type activity involve hiring a boat with a leak?

You like leaky boats?

Bali, Penang, Sentosa and Angkor Wat are great. It largely depends on what your interests are.

Loved Bali, Jogjakarta, Penang and Burma ... 37 years ago.  Got some good vegetarian food in Singapore.

In my opinion the southern part of Bali is a s... hole..., albeit an exotic one. However if you can handle the 2 and 1/2 hour private taxi ride there are some very nice places in the north of the island..., Ubud, just north of the tourism ghetto of south Bali has pretty much gone to the dogs now although if you find a nice resort close close to town, Ubud can be quite tolerable. Farther towards the north west coast around the old volcano and just above Lovina beach..., there is a very nice older eco resort in Munduk..., it's not so quiet anymore as these days there are plenty of people getting out to that area.

Ko Lipe is nice for sure and Ko Samed would be another great one for a few days. Outside Thailand maybe Vientiane or Ho Chi Minh. This all just depends on your preferences and what kind of a holiday you're looking for. Personally find Singapore the most boring and stiff city of all.

Hmm yea sure Food capital but for what kind of food. Sure can't compare to Bangkok or any Thai city as far as the quality and taste of food is concerned.

I always find this food capital thing so funny. I went on a holiday to Taipei last year. It had also been mentioned as one of the Food capitals of Asia and what a joke it was. All the weirdo Chinese style intestines and stinky tofus all over the streets. And then they pride themselves with some beef noodle soup that has no taste. Hardly had anything good there and they still have the guts to advertise Taipei as a food lovers paradise! Always a pleasure to return to Thailand from any other South East Asian country.
