ISOC drops charges against human rights activists

BANGKOK, 8 March 2017 (NNT) – The Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Front Command has revoked charges against 3 human rights activities initially made due to their unveiling of reports on the southern region situation, affirming all sides must work together to end the violence.

Deputy Spokesman for ISOC Region 4 Col Pramot Phrom-in has announced the results of discussions with activists who compiled a report indicating instances of official torture in the southern region, assuring that his office will not seek any legal proceedings against the 3. He elaborated that the office never intended to have the activists brought up on charges and sees them as part of the effort to remedy the southern situation. He added a commission has been set up to check the facts of the report.

Cross Cultural Foundation (CrCF) adviser and former chairman Somchai Homla-or thanked the ISOC office and assured that the information presented in his report was merely testimonials that have yet to be verified and should not be used as reference material.

On a network of Buddhists in the 3 southern regions calling for equal rights between Buddhists and Muslims, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha assured that relevant agencies have met with them and concluded the issue. He noted the call was set off by provocation from ill-wishing parties and urged citizens to be wary of those seeking to incite dissent.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan meanwhile, reiterated the government does not plan to use Section 44 of the Interim Constitution to handle the southern situation and is investigating whether it is being prolonged by political interests.

Uh, so how about legal charges against the officials who authorized the torture?

Well that is a move in the right direction

How generous.

Meanwhile there's been no further news of prosecution of  four army officers of ISOC and one naval officer who had been arrested by the military for human trafficking in 2015- one now a Lt. General.
