Cambodians feasting on Pattaya strays anger local dog lovers

PATTAYA: -- Pattaya dog lovers went to the police after they found out that Cambodian construction workers were catching strays for their dinner.

Up to 30 had gone missing in recent weeks from a patch of waste ground behind a sports complex in Huay Yai sub-district where there is construction work taking place, reported 77Jowo.

But after police came no one was arrested - the Cambodians were just warned about eating dogs.

Mrs Orn-anong Capser, 38, said she visited the area daily with others to feed the strays and give them medical attention if needed. She had noticed that the dog population was going down by about one a day.

Then yesterday she saw a dog run out of the construction area where the Cambodians lived - it had a sling around its neck.

Another dog lover Wipharat Mingkhwan, 64, said she had seen the Cambodians chasing the dogs every day. Two men had even approached her about some dogs that she looked after wanting to buy them for food.

She told them "No Way!" and then in no uncertain terms that that was illegal in Thailand. The Cambodians then left with their tails between their legs.

Orn-Anong could stand the situation no longer, however, and she hot footed it to Nong Prue police who were quickly on the scene.

But if the animal lovers wanted an arrest of the foreign workers they were to be disappointed.

The police could not enter the construction site because it is run by the military. So it was decided just to talk to the Cambodians.

They were warned that this behavior was not acceptable in Thailand and that no more eating of dogs would be tolerated, reported 77Jowo.

That must be the new Fort Pattaya nuclear facility. :coffee1:

If they love dogs so much, how about paying for spay and neuter?

Lads, come to my soi. I'll even provide the plates.

Never mind your soi as they are rampant and untrained almost everywhere in Thailand. What we need is lots more Cambodians, Vietnamese and Koreans who are very very hungry

Ah, a military project using migrant labor and culling the stray dog population.  Reform at last!

Strays are a scourge. Let them eat meat. The Cambodians, not the dogs.

Is there an explicit law against eating dogs?

The Thais kill and eat snakes, rats, bugs, chickens, goats, reptiles, fish, birds, tigers, indeed most things that move. Why not dogs? Just as long as they are killed swiftly.

Beats me why anyone would complain.  Where is the rational argument against this?

I know it was meant to make people think, perhaps a particular way but all I thought was horse meat in France was pretty standard when I was growing up.  Rabbits standard in UK and OZ when growing up.  Oz now sells Kangaraoo in most supermarkets as a healthy heart red meat choice, endorsed by Health depts. Used to be only for dog food.  Likewise Emu in some places.  Quails were sold in Harrods, could never work out the attraction there as it just seems fiddly.

As long as the Cambodians are cooking it very well let them rip

Sharky maybe aint gonna be happy.

The Thais believe the Cambodians are eating reincarnated Thais (bad ones who have come back as dogs). This is too much for the Thais to stomach (no pun intended). It would be okay if they were Koreans. Loss of face.

Man, I would get in to serious trouble if I caught them.  Snapping Cambodian twigs!

Leave the dogs alone!

So you'll go hurt humans trying to feed themselves but wont go down to help the dogs hey?

A mere 30, how could you ever tell that few were missing from the hoards.

How pathetic. Next time someone is bitten hold the Thai lady responsible.
Please come down my soi so that I can ride my bicycle to the park without being attacked.
Do Cambodians eat pigeons. I'm thinking of getting a catapult

bb guns are more accurate.

Round up the stray dogs pls one way or the other.

I never realised that there were so many dog haters on Thai Visa.  Of course there is a problem !  There is everywhere in Thailand.  Dogs need to be neutered and that takes time and money, but a way has got to be found to do it !

Actually flying doc what is needed is not just neutering but a change in attitude by Thais to be responsible dog owners and not let their dogs roam around in public. Can't see this happening though. Foreigners come to feed dogs at our beach and consequently we constantly have a huge pack of dogs outside our condo hanging around, barking and fouling the footpath. Please if you feed dogs here think about the consequences - you are only there for a few minutes but the residents nearby have to cope with your actions 24/7.

Could always try the rats!

If you love dogs, adopt one (or more) and take them home. Do not feed them in someone else's neighborhood.

great solution. slow going if it is only going to be 1 a day though.

They do eat them in the North and their skins are used on the insides of shoes.

I eat horse every week. And if they had dog meat here and it tasted good i eould eat it too. The whole meat debate is hypocrite. There is no friendly meat eating. But at least i am aware and try to compensate on karma level.

TV are just making sure that you are paying attention...and reading to the end. It is a surveillance technique. No satire intended.
