Mae Hong Son border run

Featured Replies

I need to do a border run from Chiang Mai (I have a multi entry visa) and was hoping to combine a visit to Mae Hong Son however I cannot find any information if the border ( crossing near Khun Yuam ) can handle the  paperwork (international status)? There was a post last year on TV that it was about to be upgraded but no further news since. Does anyone know the current situation? Thanks

My understanding is that there are serious concerns about smuggling through that area, and this has hindered plans to upgrade the Khun Yuam border point. If ever fully opened, it would almost immediately become a major trade route, and the opening would be big news.
