Khon Kaen highway police intercept 530kgs of marijuana

By The Nation

Highway police in Khon Kaen foiled an attempt to smuggle 530 kilogrammes of marijuana with street value of Bt10 million into Bangkok early Saturday.

They seized the drug which was packed into 530 bars each of one kg. The marijuana was stuffed into 15 bags that have silica gel packets to absorb moisture to preserve the drug’s quality.

Acting on tips-off, Khon Kaen high-way police set up a checkpoint on the in-bound Mittraparp Road in Tambon Sa-ard of Nampong district at midnight. At 2:20 am, they spot a pick-up truck with something covered on its back.

Tip offs are the only way the police ever seize drugs here. Highway police stopped them? Bunch of traffic wardens with guns.

20,000 baht a kilo street value? Good profit there as you can get it this side of the border @ 3000b/kg

I await the 'death penalty' posts, Lol. I know of a couple of Thais serving  7 years for twice that amount.

Makes good reading though and the truck must have been full.

Driver never stoped, was able to carry on another 10 kms, then

park and run off into the forrest,

one would think this was the very first roadblock these law enforcement

employees have attempted ,

No they do not offer wholesale price, and they most probably declared all that was siezed. Just boring to hear all the negative comments from people here, when they actually clear out more than before of the drug smuggling operations. Wouldn´t hurt some of you guys to be a little bit positive sometimes, or maybe just to much to ask for.
