webfact Posted March 13, 2017 Share Posted March 13, 2017 Thailand observes National Elephant Day today BANGKOK: -- Thailand today observed the National Elephant Day with several elephant camps holding religious activities to highlight the importance of the Thai elephant in history and culture. In Ayutthaya province, the former ancient capital of the country, a religious ceremony was held at the famous Ayutthaya Elephant Camp to wipe away bad luck and wish for good luck for the elephants and their mahouts in the coming year. More than 60 elephants and their mahouts took part in the traditional rituals. A Chinese style huge feast of a varieties of fruits was also offered to the elephants after the ceremony. Meanwhile similar activities were also held in Thailand’s northern region, particularly at the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre. At Nong Nooch Garden in Pattaya, a Buddhism ceremony was held to give blessing to 75 elephants and their mahouts.
