GSB introduces cardless ATM technology

BANGKOK, 16 March 2017 (NNT) - The Government Savings Bank (GSB) has introduced Asia’s first cardless ATM technology in which only a smartphone is used to withdraw cash.

GSB Chatchai Payuhanaveechai revealed that GSB clients are now able to withdraw money either via ATM or ADM through the internet, without having to use a card. They can simply download MyMo application on their phones and withdraw up to 5,000 baht per day from the machine.

To use this function, they must enter the amount of money they wish to withdraw in the application. And when they have access to a GSB ATM or ADM, they select MyMo MyCard on the menu and scan QR code to confirm the transaction. Following these simple steps, users will receive their money without having to use an ATM card.

Chatchai said the new technology requires less time than a traditional ATM card. It is also safer for the users as skimmers will not be able to steal their information or money.

In this initial phase, the Mymo-application compatible system will be installed in cash machines in Bangkok and its vicinity.

Card less ATM technology clearly exists already.

A major bank (who shall remain nameless) managed to dispense B138000 from my account in a series of ATM withdrawals,in Calcutta of all places, in early January. My card was locked up at home. Once I had proved I had never been to Calcutta ( passport showed I was in Thailand) they are grudgingly investigating. Card skimming I suppose, I paid a number of bills using ATMs at the end of the year.

They remain nameless as they made it quite clear they would take action against me if I went public.

As for it being safer - I very much doubt it - mobile phones can be cloned can they not?

Oh great... make life more easy for the hackers why don't you? while you at

it, just give them the keys to the ATM machine and safe time for everyone....

Going into a cashless society means no more privacy and full enslavement of the people !

A fully transparent citizen where all financial transactions are monitored [and controlled] by the Government !

Who ever thinks this is a good thing is utterly insane or works for the Government !

This is Orwell on Steroids and the consequences for all of us will be a total nightmare.

[Who gets the data ? Who has access to the data ? Who can use the data ? ... and who has control over the system ?]

Time to wake up ... or suffer the consequences

Fully agree

Luckily, I hail from a country where privacy and civil rights are still valued and eradicating cash would cause a civil war. And I would be a warrior in that war for sure

Never pay for anything with your debit card.

Pay for everything with a credit card.

Transfer money from debit to credit card.

Problem solved!  (Except watch out for skimmer devices physically installed in ATMs) ?

They just had to insert that little zinger. I guess "action" would be taken even at the mention of this to anyone. Begrudgingly yeah I bet.

And what planet might that be on, 'cos I want to live there.
