Heavy rains wreak havoc in many areas

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 27 March 2017 (NNT) – Rains have continued in many areas of the country, with 26 provinces reported as facing issues due to downpours.

Heavy rains overnight have resulted in flooding in some parts of Nakhon Ratchasima province with 30 centimeters of water on some of its main roads. The trapped water has caused several cars and motorcycles to seize up and left them abandoned for the time being. Authorities are working to unclog drainage systems which are being blocked by waste and garbage and have been successful in alleviating the situation somewhat.

Nine power lines were felled in Nonthaburi province last night as high winds brought on by storms wreaked havoc. Some of the poles fell on houses, causing further damage.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has reported 26 provinces were affected by storms between March 14 and 26 with 5,500 homes in 98 districts experiencing damage. Three deaths and 2 injuries were also reported as a result of the storms.

Authorities are now assessing the extent of damage and are working to pass out assistance to locals. They are urging citizens to prepare for more such storms predicted for this week.

Perhaps rename "The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation" to become "The Department for Unblocking Storm Drains When There's Nothing Much Else to Do"?

wreak havoc

If rains wreaked havoc, then all was well having destroyed havoc conditions, causing fair conditions.

Better written as "rains caused havoc."

wrecked ----- destroyed.

wreak ---------- to inflict.

Last week Thailand was drying out and rainmakers requested, now under water again, totally failed state and government

Pathetic. Same old same old every year. Let's leave the drains blocked, chuck plastic bags on the canal and never build a bloody road with a camber in order to increase standing water.
No hope because there's zero joined up thinking in LOS.

I wouldn't say that Thailand is a failed state - this is the sort of chap who runs things in a failed state (from "Business Insider" website article on failed states), and low as my opinion of those who run this country is, we are a long way from this|

Now incompetent, yes, a thousand times yes....

There isn't enough bandwidth to discuss how and why....
