BANGKOK: -- Voice TV fans have hit back at broadcasting officials for the seven-day ban imposed on the channel.

They denounced the move as a curb on the media and claimed that its reports were the truth – and vowed to follow the station online.

Facebook live coverage of the station’s press conference received mostly “angry face” emoticon as station executive Mekin Petchplai clarified Voice TV’s next moves after it was suspended by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Monday.

The fans also provided moral support, encouraging Voice TV staff to keep up their work so that audiences can still watch their shows via Facebook and its website.

Many claimed the move was “what happens” when the country is ruled by a “dictatorial” regime, when freedom of expression is limited.

It may also be because Voice TV’s editorial style is widely perceived as leaning towards the pro-democracy side, opposite to the current atmosphere, they said.

“It is a shame that freedom of such a straightforward station had to be limited,” said a comment by Jagrapat Jungtrakul on the Facebook live page, which addressed the close-down order.

“Voice is a station that provides factual information,” another comment by Achawee Sarabun said.

Voice TV is run also by Panthongtae and Pintongta Shinwatra, the son and daughter of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin.

It has been under a close watch and warned several times by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) since the coup in 2014 for its “unbalanced” criticism of the regime.

Right....

I am not a fan of Voice TV or the money grubbing Shinawatra clan but it is worth pointing out that Khaosod, which is often quoted as a source by TV, reported that the report that led to the suspension was about the17 your old Lahu boy shot and killed by a soldier for allegedly pulling out a knife and a grenade in order to single handed attack a squad of heavily armed soldiers at a well known checkpoint.

It was also about how they reported on the Kotee and how they reported about the mess at that Wat in Bangkok.  Not just this one incident.  Three times in one month was enough.

It's not so much what it was about, but rather how they framed it.  I'm sure it was spun to show the junta in a bad light.  Which may, or may not, be true.  That station rarely portrays the opposition in a favorable manner.  And rarely reports just the news.  A lot is opinion pieces.

The red shirts may well be biased but probably not more than the opposite political faction.

Actually the Junta has a long record of producing alternative facts.....

Not all the country are the blinkered sheep the PM would like them to be it seems. And they are calling it right, a curb on the media and limited freedom of expression under a dictatorial rule.
