Transport Ministry prepared for public van strike

BANGKOK, 30 March 2017 (NNT) – The Minister of Transport has assured the office is ready if public transport vans go on strike in April and has affirmed to adhere to the government’s policy on improving transport for the public.

Minister of Transport Arkom Termpittayapaisit has responded to announcements by the Interprovincial Transport Van Association that it will suspend operations from April 1 onward in protest of its drivers having their licenses seized, saying his office has once before spoken with the group and has a plan to handle the situation if the vans proceed with their strike action. He asserted that all rules being imposed on the vans are to increase their safety and efficiency for the public and that they are being rolled out intermittently to allow operators to adapt.

Deputy Commander of the Royal Guard Cavalry 2 Col Suwit Ketsri has held a meeting with interprovincial transport van operators to explain to them the need to change terminal stations so that they are uniform to the station in Bangkok. Up to 29 temporary stations have been set up in destinations no more than 300 kilometers from Bangkok to ensure uniformity of safety and service measures.

New regulations being imposed on transport vans include reducing their seating capacity from 18 to 13 and for a clear exit path to be secured. All the safety measures are to be put into effect by Songkran to ensure safe travel during the holiday period.

Yeah screw all the Thai people wanting to go home for Thai New Year....

This might lead to a spike in the population, and a nice respite for emergency room workers at the local hospitals.

This is embarrassing, nobody has the moral high ground here. The van companies have for years never paid any attention to driver regulation or customer safety, on the contrary they encourage their brainless moron drivers to drive like brainless morons with a pay per journey system.

And the authorities have made transport worse for the public by moving the van depots miles away from where was more convenient to get them from.

The only loser i see here are the public who will be unable to travel home and the public again because the govt will never actually bother to enforce safety regulations for them.

A real $#it show ?

Yeah go on strike please, and by that save some lives from your disregards

to safety and cutting your noses to spite your faces, guess who's going to

lose revenues if you strike?.....

Price you pay for not having a efficient public transport system.

great op for introducing the new mini buses

A vast majority of these vans are owned by one person.  Hmmm....Perhaps some good ol' competition is due?

Keep death off the roads. Let these reckless idiots stay on strike as long as they like.

The amount of lives saved by those arrseholes going on strike will be phenominal!!

Looks like the road toll may actually go down this April.

Seems like cracks are starting to appear. Wait till the booze ,ciggies  and fuel go up followed by a lot of other things. People are not going to be happy. Chip, chip

5555.  In typical Thai style.  The name begins with a B.

I've no idea.  Just read that interesting piece of info from an article.  So basically, it's a monopoly.

They won't go on strike.

Those guys need the money.

Well, let's trust it's not the usual Thai BS. It'll certainly make for safer roads.

And they might also be signing their own metaphorical death warrant.

What kind of sign at this strike ?

LET US KILL OUR PASSENGERS !

WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE !

Great news, safer roads and fewer road deaths will be the result while the strike is on.

Unfortunately the strike is unlikely to continue for very long.

A very valid point there Mr Smutcakes.

However, the. Purpose of thr exercise is to see to it that most people get gome save and soumgd.

Im sure the Buses and Trains are still working...

It is possible to get somewhere without the need of a minibus

Let them go on strike...it will save the lives of hundreds of people.

Uber minivans would be a nice way to take up the slack while the strike is on. If not well then someone will find a way to take advantage of the minivan strike.
