Visa options for Canadian citizen marrying a Thai

Featured Replies

My Thai girlfriend and I are getting married and I’m wondering what options I have for getting a new visa. I’m currently on a SETV issued from Penang and will be extending it at Chiang Mai immigration before April 18. I don’t have the required 400k THB in a Thai bank account in my name to get a marriage visa. I’ve read that getting a Non-O visa based on marriage from Savannakhet, Laos is a possibility with no financial requirements. Is this still possible? I’m a Canadian citizen and have been living in Chiang Mai for 1 year on tourist visas.

You can apply for a  multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage at Savannakhet with no financial proof needed. The visa will allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue.

Thanks Ubonjoe. Is there any required time period between signing the marriage papers and getting the Non-O visa? I'd plan to sign the marriage papers within the next 2 weeks and head to Savannakhet around May 15 to apply for the Non-O visa.

You can start the trip to get your visa on the same day you register your marriage at an Amphoe to get the marriage certificate. There is no rule that says you have to married for any amount of time to get it.
