BANGKOK: --Minivan drivers and operators face stiff fines if new seating and GPS regulations are not followed at Songkran and thereafter.

The Land Transport Department has said that all minivans will in future only be allowed to carry 13 passengers.

If they have 14 or 15 seats the extra must be removed - or the driver and operators will face heavy fines, reported Manager.

There are various methods as to how this seating arrangement might be achieved - but the bottom line is no more than 13 in a van - or else.

And operators who have yet to install GPS are also being targeted.

Manager reported that 92% of minivans now have GPS. Vans without GPS from Songkran and thereafter will mean fines of up to 5,000 baht for the driver and 50,000 baht for the operator/owner of the service.

They quoted Sanit Phromwong of the land department as saying that the new law came into effect on March 31st and will be enforced from the start of the traditional holidays.

Ha ha. The tide is turning for these driving morons in vans.

Thailand would be better without them.

But they are cheaper than the skytrain/subway which is very strange...so the skytrain is too expensive.
