Hey!

I've done a little research online. I've airbnb also.. but I can't seem to find what I'm after

I'm looking for a condo or apartment in Ubon. I've never been to ubon so I've no idea if it's a place I can just turn up and find a condo easily.

It's a short term lease I'm looking for as well.. just 1 month :)

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks :)!

One month as you say, is short so why not stay in a hotel or resort. Many would do you a deal for a months stay, I'm sure.

Nice place Ubon BTW but hardly any condo's except maybe 'new builds'

a small apartment with a kitchen, and pretty central. From what I see only I might end up having to try and get a small house.. or see if a hotel will do a monthly rate. I don't really want to feel like a tourist and live in a hotel though

Like I say I've never been so I have no idea what the housing situation is like there haha.

Hi khunUK,

Welcome to Ubon! What you're looking for would be a great setup, but you may run into a couple of issues, namely the kitchen and the 1 month time frame.  As others have said, there are lots of apartments in town, however, virtually all of them are small studio apartments with no kitchen.  Houses with kitchens can be found, though they can be harder to find, will cost more, and many aren't move-in ready (ie you'd have to spend lots of money on furniture, linen, cookware, etc. to make it livable, which isn't really feasible for 1 month). Though (mostly) furnished houses are available sometimes.  I do know of 1 or 2 condo places that have 1 BR units with small kitchens for rent.  However, a problem you'll likely run into with all of the above options is the 1 month timeline. Typically, houses and condos are looking for long-term multi-month renters.  Even many of the studio apartments require a deposit on move in  (usually priced at 1-2 months rent) that you only get back if you stay for at least 3 months.  So in other words, most places are setup for long term rental, not 1 month.  But it's worth looking around, it's always possible to find a landlord willing to make a deal for 1 month, though you may pay a premium for it.  It may be worth checking with John at Ubon Homes- he often has houses, townhomes, and houses for rent, but I'm not sure if only 1 month is an option, you'd have to check with him.

In regards to the hotels, that's an easy option, but I don't know if there's any place you can get a real in-room kitchen.  There are, of course, several places that have onsite restaurants, so there will be food available.  At our place (The Outside Inn), we often have long-term guests (2 at the moment), who will stay anywhere from a few weeks to several months a year.  We offer lots of options, ranging from the whole hotel experience at a heavily discounted rate, to more of an apartment experience.  I would imagine other hotels in town do similar things if you reach out to them.  If you google us, you'll find our website, Facebook, online reviews, and contact info- feel free to contact us if you'd like to talk.  Regardless of where you end up staying, if you need any help orientating in Ubon, feel free to contact us or stop by anytime.

I've stayed in a bout 30 of Ubon's hotels and 'resorts'*. Commonplace to have a fridge in nearly all such accommodations. Kettles also, but typically they're only in the above 500 baht a night class. The only one I have seen with a kitchenette or kitchen is the Excella which my review spreadsheet (attached) records as having a microwave so presumably no rings. Can't imagine any hotel/resort would have an oven as they are not in the Thai cooking psyche.

Unfortunately Excella is in the medium price bracket - about 1,000 baht a night which would probably put it out of your price range unless they will do a hugely discounted monthly rate.

Maybe someone else has stayed in a resort on the fringes of town that will have a kitchenette, but you specified reasonably central, which resorts tend not to be in Ubon (there would be some reasonably close to/to the north of the Big C area across the Ring Road though).

Dunno what cooking you want to do, but if it's a question of having a rings and/or microwave you might have to look at buying same and then renting a cheaper hotel/resort room with a fridge. Owners might not like cooking taking place (fire/smell hazard) - up to you whether you pre-clear or not.

If I were taking this approach I would start with Phadaeng Mansion - this place is very central, highly recommended by local falang like me at 500 baht a night, they have medium size fridges in large (25sq.m) rooms and more importantly they have a 'balcony' that is more like a wanabee kitchen - quite deep (door to back edge) and covered, a good size and has a sink/drainer and cupboards where you could do some ring cooking - can't remember whether there is an electric point outside though.

Good luck.

*I'll assume you are not new to Thailand so that you know what 'resorts' are. Ask again if you are not sure
