A Lampang man was killed instantly when a sign fixed to a gantry came crashing down in traffic on the Lopburi to Singburi Road yesterday.

Twenty nine year old soy milk trader Somchai Sae-phan was crushed in the cab of his red plate Toyota Revo pick-up.

He had just taken his wife to Singburi and was returning home.

Four women in a Toyota Innova were also slightly hurt.

The sign had been in place for ten years. It snapped and plunged to earth around 2pm yesterday afternoon as heavy rain and high winds lashed the area.

A backhoe was used to clear the debris. The sign was erected by the Tha Wung sub-district council.

Poor guy....but another fine example of Thai engineering standards.....although I doubt any engineer would have been involved!

Not Thai engineering no sir, this was caused by the bad wind and rain of course.

Sometimes you can just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But if you are a Buddhist, it may be in the wrong place at the right time. . . If you get my drift on re-incarnation.

Strangely enough slightly off topic, could be the right time in the right place, or any mixture of the words, but to be in a more serious tone, a rotten way to go, the sign had been in place for ten years and probably well rusted and probably never checked, which cost this young man his life, and all we can offer is the crappy RIP for what it's worth!

Agreed about the mixture, but "probably" is a big word in this context. Seeking blame. A fraction of a second either way would have produced a different result. Sometimes, a time to go is just that. Nevertheless a technical forensics of the sign integrity, could produce a liability.
