Tropical storms wreak havoc, are forecast until next week

SURIN, 3 May 2017 (NNT) – The Meteorological Department has warned the public to be on alert for tropical storms until next week after heavy rains in many areas yesterday resulted in damage to homes and farms.

A tropical storm in Sangka district of Surin province yesterday heavily damaged the houses of some locals with roofs torn off and property such as clothing and electric appliances destroyed.

In Nonthaburi, a billboard was toppled onto a residence and 6 commercial units. The board was apparently weakened by a bout of rain earlier in the day.

Police are investigating the fall to see if any negligence was involved. Damage to farms and homes was also reported in Buriram’s Muang district, with a cow and her newly born calves endangered by the situation While the Meteorological Department is forecasting high heat over the next few days, it also noted the possibility of more tropical storms up until next week.

It said the rains will offer a respite from heat but also pose their own dangers.
