I once heard a story attributed to the Buddha and wondered if anyone could come up with a source?

It basically is about a young man who grieves for a father. he emplys many priests etc. doing rituals to bring his father back to life.

Buddha asks him if prayers and rituals would cause a pile of rocks to float, or a barrel of oil to sink, and upon replying that went against the laws of nature he said also expecting  such to revive a dead one is the same.

In other words, Buddha is saying that each of us has his own soul level which will determine the after life spiritual realm one goes to.

The evil people who killed beings will go to lower realm whereas those who saved beings will go to higher realms.

This is consistent with Michael Newtons' research 'Journey of Souls' book.
