Tonight I almost stood on a small snake about 6 inches long outside the door. I didn't get a chance to get a photo but best description is brown and black with a black almost arrowhead shaped black marking on it's head.

It disappeared out under the front gate.

Anyone have any ideas?

Obviously a baby but even some baby snakes are nasty.

Think I found a photo of the same pattern although the one I saw was only about 100mm max.

The arrow shape on the head was much more defined.

Well suggests you  may have seen a viper. But without  picture it's hard to tell. Go look at pictures of Malayan Pit Vipers to see if that looks familiar.

 

But the picture is a Speckled Coral Snake

Looked at a few pit viper photos but they don't look like the shape of head on the little one I saw so not sure. Wasn't fast moving either even on the rough surface so still not sure what it was.
