The head of a statue likely dating back to the 11th century has been found in Battambang town and handed over to the provincial museum. The head, believed to be depicting a god, was found when workers at a brick factory were excavating a plot of land.  
 

Provincial culture and fine arts department director Keo Sopheap said the department handed over the head to the Culture and Fine Arts Ministry’s secretary of state during an official ceremony. “It is the head of a god statue made from sandstone,” Ms Sopheap said. “It was probably created between the 11th and 12th centuries
 

“Our citizens clearly understand the importance and value of ancient things. “They never traffic or sell artefacts.”
