ubonjoe
You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife and then apply for the one year extension.

Kerryd
17 May was 12 days ago. How long after a visa (or extension of stay) has expired can you still request an extension ? My understanding was that if the visa (or extension) expired, you had to start the process all over again from scratch ?

Depends on what extension of stay you are applying for and the office you are applying at. I would think most offices would still process a 1 year extension 12 days late, but you would have to pay the 500 per day overstay fine first. I think the date in the OP is probably a typo.
